Preparing Learners to Think, Create, Collaborate and Adapt
The “21st Century Skills in Practice” course is a practical Erasmus+ training designed for educators who want to move beyond traditional content delivery and actively prepare learners for a rapidly changing world.
Participants will explore how to integrate key 21st century competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, digital literacy, and problem-solving into everyday teaching practice.
The course combines hands-on workshops, reflection activities, and classroom-ready tools. Teachers will experience learner-centered methods that can be directly adapted to their own educational context, regardless of subject or age group.
By the end of the course, participants will have a clear framework, practical lesson ideas, and ready-to-use strategies to develop future-ready learners.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the core 21st century skills framework and its relevance in modern education
- Identify and map 21st century skills within their own curriculum
- Apply practical methods to develop critical thinking and problem-solving in learners
- Use collaborative learning techniques to strengthen classroom interaction
- Integrate creativity and innovation into everyday lessons
- Support students in developing digital literacy and responsible technology use
- Design lesson activities that combine subject knowledge with transferable skills
- Reflect on their own teaching style and adapt it to a skills-based approach

Day 1 – Course Introduction & Setting Goals

- Identifying needs and goals for each participant and relevant populations
- Discussing 21st-century learners and the current educational landscape in Europe
- Group discussions and activities
Day 2 – The 4Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration & Communication in Practice
- Introduction to the 4Cs framework and its importance for future-ready learners
- Practical tools for developing critical thinking
- Encouraging creativity through idea generation and innovative activities
- Building collaboration skills through teamwork and cooperative learning methods
- Improving communication through discussion, presentation, and feedback techniques
- Redesigning traditional activities to develop the 4Cs
Day 3 – Character Qualities: Developing Mindsets for the Future
- Understanding character qualities and their role in lifelong learning
- Strategies for creating learning environments that support personal growth
- Activities that encourage reflection, independence, and positive learning habits
- Designing activities that develop both knowledge and character qualities
- Reflection on how educators can support learners beyond subject content
Day 4 – Innovative Ways of Teaching Content
- Moving from traditional content delivery towards active learning approaches

Day 5 – From Ideas to Implementation

Methodology & Learning Approach
The course uses a practical, learner-centred methodology combining hands-on workshops, real-world examples, simulations, guided reflection and collaborative activities. Participants exchange good practices, work in international groups and develop ideas that can be adapted to their own professional context.
Optional cultural, social and networking activities support local engagement, intercultural learning and professional collaboration.
Practical Details
Duration: 1 week or 25 academic hours
Schedule: Classes are from Monday to Friday in the morning or in the afternoon. The final timetable will be sent at least two weeks before the start of the class.
Saturday is reserved for Cultural Activities.
Sundays are for arrival and departure.
Note: other durations and schedules can be arranged on demand.
Certification:
Participants who meet the attendance requirements receive a Certificate of Attendance documenting the course title, dates, venue and learning outcomes.
Preparation:
No special preparation is required unless stated in the course programme.
Participants may be invited to introduce their organisation and share examples
from their professional context. Any required materials or equipment will be
communicated before the course.
Erasmus+ funding:
Course fees and mobility costs may be supported through an eligible sending organisation's Erasmus+ grant. Eligibility and final funding are determined by the beneficiary organisation and its National Agency.

Understanding Academy provides course programmes, learning outcomes, registration documentation and certificates for mobility administration. Participants and sending organisations remain responsible for transport, accommodation and grant management.
