A sworn translation is made by a sworn translator, and it includes a legalization signed and stamped, which gives it full legal validity.

A sworn translator is a professional who has completed a translation training at a University level and is authorized to officially translate official documents such as a certificate, diploma, Chamber of Commerce extract or birth certificate, etc. In the Netherlands, sworn translators must take an oath in one of the district courts. After taking the oath, their signature is registered with the Dutch Court, or Rechtbank, in the local language. Additionally, sworn translators must be registered with the Dutch registry of sworn interpreters and translators (Bureau Wbtv).
A sworn translation with the signature and stamp of the sworn translator has the same legal validity as the source document.

If your document will be used for legal proceedings, immigration, or government-related matters, chances are you need a sworn translation. Normally these entities require sworn translations: municipal or city services, universities, employers or other public bodies. Typical examples include a birth or marriage certificate, a diploma, court documents or legal documents in the context of an inheritance.

A sworn translation includes a sworn declaration from the translator (legalization), in which he/she attests that the translation is faithful and accurate. Besides, a sworn translation is securely attached to the source document.
Remember that in the Netherlands digital documents do not have legal validity, you need the paper. You can get it by post to your home or work address or collect it from the office at Keizersgracht 520H, 1017EK, Amsterdam.

If your documents will be presented outside of the Netherlands, you may need an Apostille. It is better to ask the organization or entity you need the translation for.


If the country you submit the translation to is member of the 117 Hague Apostille Member Countries (see here) you need to take your translation to the Rechtbank closest to you and ask for an Apostille. The price for the Apostille is EUR 25. If you want to get your Apostille done by us, get in contact.

Value takes time, but it is also understood that you need your translation to be ready fast. Normally, delivery time takes a few working days, but get in contact to get a precise delivery date.
